Latest Backdoor Trojan Steals Sensitive Personal Information
SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 11, 2005 - Fortinet - the pioneer and market leader of Unified Threat Management and only provider of ASIC-accelerated, network-based multi-threat security systems for real-time network protection - today announced that its FortiGate™ integrated security appliances, FortiMail Secure Messaging Systems and FortiClient™ Host Security software protect against W32/Dumador.DH-tr, a new backdoor Trojan for the Windows platform that uses spyware and keylogging to collect and submit sensitive personal information via the HTTP protocol.
As a backdoor Trojan, W32/Dumador.DH-tr does not spread by itself; instead, users get unknowingly infected when visiting malicious Websites. W32/Dumador.DH-tr collects personal information such as Social Security, credit card and bank account numbers, eBay and PayPal account numbers, online user names, passwords, and more, and sends this information to a remote server. It can also install itself into the Windows egistry, record keystrokes and reduce overall system security by changing browser settings, preventing access to antivirus websites and opening a backdoor port in the infected computer. This latest backdoor Trojan is currently affecting users worldwide and Fortinet rates W32/Dumador.DH-tr as a high-profile "Level Two" threat.
Automatic Updates: FortiGuard Distribution Network
All FortiGate systems in production worldwide are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard Distribution Network, which provides continuous updates that ensure protection against the latest threats around the clock and around the world. To protect customers against W32/Dumador.DH-tr, Fortinet published antivirus databases V6.012 for its thousands of FortiGate systems within one and a half hours of receiving the first malicious sample. With this latest antivirus database update, Fortinet's FortiGate systems block the Trojan, and other types of threats, at the gateway before it enters customers' networks.
