Free White Paper: Next Generation Security for Enterprise Networks
Fortinet's Consolidated Security Systems Secures Japan's Leading Statistical Mathematics Research Institute and its Massive Data Warehouse
TOKYO, Japan, October 16, 2009 - Fortinet® - a market-leading network security provider and worldwide leader of unified threat management (UTM) solutions today announced the successful deployment of two FortiGate® -3810B enterprise-grade security systems and one FortiAnalyzer™-800B to provide network traffic visibility at Japans Institute of Statistical Mathematics. Sitting at the core of the network, the Institute has elected to use the FortiGate-3810Bs firewall and intrusion prevention systems (IPS) security functions to accelerate network security performance and achieve seamless operations. The flexibility of FortiGate appliances allow end-users to customize the security offerings based on their organizations security needs.
According to Dr. Yoshiyasu Tamura, the Vice Director-General and Professor of the Computational Statistics Group, Department of Data Science, ÏStatistical data is the lifeblood of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics, the only specialist research institute of its kind in Japan. The data warehouse is crucial for academic research and provides application for events such as opinion polls, risk analysis, earthquake predictions, economics, space and weather forecasts. Thus, the Institute is moving towards high speed networks and robust security of up to 10 GbE throughput with its super computers.
To prepare for the high-speed network upgrade for the Institute, Fortinets next-generation firewall is now being deployed as an initial step for the upcoming network overhaul. Previously, the Institute was using firewall software and intrusion detection systems (IDS) point solution to secure their communication network spanning across universities and research institutions in Japan for shared collaboration purpose. Fortinets security solution has been chosen because of its high performance, enterprise grade security solutions and the technology-driven thought leadership provided by CEO, Ken Xie.
Yasuyuki Shinmen, Fortinet Country Manager of Japan, added, ÏFortinet is honored to be selected by The Institute of Statistical Mathematics, a leading research and educational institute in Japan, to secure its network. Fortinets core value proposition to offer enterprise grade security technology with superior consolidation and virtualization abilities has not gone unrecognized by end users. We continue to look forward to providing leading cost-performance advantage for our customers.
Fortinets FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that integrate essential network and security services such as antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam, application control, data leakage protection, SSL inspection and WAN acceleration. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard Network, which helps ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, other unwanted network traffic and more.
