Internet Shopping Mall MyMargin Secures Website and Services with Fortinet Systems

Popular price comparison and shopping Website ensures secure transactions and protects against Internet threats with Fortinet solutions

SEOUL, South Korea, September 11, 2007 - Fortinet® - the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions - today announced that MyMargin, an online business that runs a popular Internet shopping and price comparison Website of the same name, has successfully deployed Fortinet's FortiGate™-300A and FortiAnalyzer™-800 network security appliances to secure transactions on its Website and protect its systems and data assets from external threats.

MyMargin hosts up to 630 online shopping malls selling a range of items from electronics to skin care products and fashion items, and receives between 150,000 and 170,000 visitors daily. Website visitors can purchase items as well as compare prices offered by different online outlets, as well as "brick-and-mortar" shops.

"Security is very important for any kind of e-commerce site for obvious reasons such as protecting credit card information and ensuring the integrity of financial transactions, but performance of the security solutions is equally important. No Website owner wants to see their site go down especially during peak periods, because their firewall could not handle the traffic. In a lot of cases, firewalls and other security systems form the bottleneck in the network," explains Mr. Park Kyung-ho, development team manager at MyMargin.

MyMargin's network of Web servers and other systems that ran the Internet shopping portal were initially protected by a mix of security software products installed on commodity servers. The complexity of this arrangement and the limited security features that the security systems offered soon convinced MyMargin to move to a UTM solution that could be remotely managed. MyMargin turned to Fortinet partner and Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP) ServeOnNet who deployed one FortiGate-300A unified threat management system in the data center and one FortiAnalyzer-800 analysis and reporting system at MyMargin's main office.

"With our new FortiGate-300A, we can now protect against a much wider range of Internet threats than before, and its throughput has truly been impressive. Even when traffic peaks, our Web services remain online and responsive," said Mr. Park.

The FortiGate-300A unified threat management platform provides a complete security solution including content inspection firewall, IPSec and SSL VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, antispam, antivirus, antispyware, and IM and P2P controls that prevent blended attacks, as well as providing integrated traffic shaping functions, making them the most cost effective, convenient and powerful network protection solutions available.

All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard™ subscription services, which provide continuous updates to help protect against the latest viruses, worms, Trojans, and other threats - around the clock, and around the world.

The FortiAnalyzer family of real-time network logging, analyzing, and reporting systems is a series of dedicated hardware solutions that securely aggregate and analyze log data from FortiGate security appliances. It provides network administrators with a comprehensive view of network usage and security information, supporting the needs of enterprises and service providers responsible for discovering and addressing vulnerabilities across dispersed FortiGate systems.

"Online shopping sites face special challenges because their reputation and business depend so much on uptime as well as the confidentiality and integrity of their financial transactions," said Mr. Justin Lee, country manager for Fortinet Korea. "MyMargin's decision to choose Fortinet, and the smooth operation of their Web services after the implementation show the performance and scalability of our product."

Purchase Fortinet Products

Fortinet provides us with a secure environment in a simplified management scheme and very low maintenance. The performance of Fortinet's firewall is second to none. All the required security functions are truly integrated, and the ease of configuration of the FortiGate appliances allowed us to carry out the initial deployment within two weeks in spite of a relatively large and widespread installed base. Today, implementing new VPN tunnels with hotels is a matter of an hour or less. Our goal is to replace the existing ISDN connections from several thousand hotel customers with VPN connections.
